Tiki reds summer sangria

Whilst sitting around during this COIVD-19 lockdown we have decided to come up with some of our own takes on some summer drinks in preparation for the camping season ahead of us. (hopefully this year!)

Today we have gone for sangria, the perfect fruity summer beverage that is adaptable and delicious!

This is our own offering to a sangria-loving world.

We have tasted, tested, retested, and what we come up with is this easy, 7 ingredient, traditional red sangria that’s got everything we are looking for:

Sweet

Dry

Smooth

Refreshing

& Boozy

Though there are many different interpretations of what “traditional sangria” is, we have found that it typically requires these main components:

Fruit

Orange juice

A sweetener (like brown sugar or cane sugar)

A liquor (like brandy, rum, vodka)

A fruity red wine

& Ice (for chilling)

Ingredients

1/2 medium orange (rind on, sliced into small pieces, large seeds removed plus more for garnish)

Hand full of grapes (red or green)

6/7 large strawberries (or more if you like them!)

3-4 Tbsp sugar

500ml cup orange juice (plus more to taste)

2 shots of vodka (plus more to taste or choice a tipple of your liking)

750 ml bottle dry Spanish red wine (or any wine of your choice)

Instructions

Add oranges, grapes, strawberries and sugar to a large pitcher and mix with a muddler or wooden spoon for 45 seconds.

Add orange juice and vodka and muddle again to combine for 30 seconds.

Add red wine and stir to incorporate, then taste and adjust flavour as needed. Stir to combine.

Leave for at least 45 mins (if you can!) to let all the fruit flavours infuse with the alcohol to make the taste so much better.

Serve as is, or with some ice. Garnish with fruit segments (optional).

Sit back and enjoy the taste of summer!
